Most traders are aware of the two commonly used approaches to analyze a market, fundamental and technical analysis.  Generally speaking fundamental analysis is concerned with “why” something in the market should happen and technical analysis attempts to answer “when” something will happen. 

There is a third approach that can also be used to analyze a market; this methodology is called Volume Spread Analysis (VSA), originated by Tom Williams.  It combines the best of both fundamental and technical analysis and simultaneously answers the critical questions of why and when a market will move.  This is accomplished by reading the chart to measure for imbalances of supply/demand, which is the cause of all major market moves.
